want to know how they did it?

It's pretty wonky but that because an academic wrote the thing. From the evidence on the tomb walls, they actually demonstrate the tools and techniques used by the ancients. There are still a lot of questions in my mind but the ancients weren't leaving all the answers for us. Stocks seem to chase down all the clues that are available and his his added insight, he reaches logical conclusions.

The best Paleo cookbook I own - by far!

I own well over 200 cookbooks and quite a few Paleo cookbooks and this is by far the book that I will return to again and again! The photography is gorgeous and the recipes are outstanding. I just made the grilled pork chops with olive oil, garlic, lemon peel, crushed red pepper, fresh rosemary and sage. Wow! It was a hit with all my guests. This is true Paleo and the recipes are so fresh and well written. Superb! I can't recommend this book enough!

Recipes too complicated for people who don't love to cook

If you love to cook fancy dinners then this is for you. I don't, so I bought a couple of easier Paleo cookbooks after reading through this one. I found it too much work for what I was looking for, also not a fan of gourmet meals that are complicated. I suggest you read as much as you can on the Amazon site before purchasing any cookbooks to find the one for you. (I didn't in this case)

The big problem I have with this book is that the recipes are just too involved. Way too many ingredients and a lot of them aren't items you would normally have on hand. So unless you just dedicate your day,week, or life to meal preparation then this book may be a little overwhelming.

Do more research on books on this topic before buying this one.

Save your money. Go to Wikipedia and look up "cognitive bias" and "cognitive biases" and branch out from there. This book starts out with a small stumble by leading off on the topic of Survivorship BiasThis book starts out with the stupidity right from the start. For example the second chapter is "Does Harvard Make You Smarter? - Swimmer's Body Illusion." He in effect claims that swimming won't improve your physique and going to Harvard and graduating won't help become better educated. Another example is in chapter 9 "Don't Bow to Authority...." He claims that no economists predicted the timing of the 2008 financial crisis, except Nouriel Roubini and Nassim Taleb. Well the fact of the matter is that a lot of economists warned of it and many of them predicted the timing as accurately as Roubini and Taleb. I guess maybe he mentioned them to butter them up after plagiarizing them. Even so there's only some small reason to give any of them a lot of credit since they could easily be beneficiaries of survivorship bias that he railed against in the first chapter. It goes on and on like this.

I'll tell you one thing, I almost always do a little more research before buying a book like this, but this time I got lazy. Hopefully I won't make that mistake again soon.

Great gift to those who hate to make mistakes.

This is type of book you wish you could read before and could keep it excerpts always handy. Very concise chapters, amazing examples, great philosophy, no bulls***. The writer is really original and his advices can help all ranges of decisions from investment to life events. Realistic and pragmatic approach to strategic thinking for life.
What I loved about the book so far
1) Feel-good is mostly bulls***
2) Follow what you are good at, not the cover of magazines
3) Stop when needed, dont get foolled by sunk costs.

Wonderful read. Totally worth it!

I typically don't have much time to read full on novels nor do I have a desire to. This book is the opposite... it's just enough information to get the point across with very whitty metaphors and real-world examples. Any User Experience designer or psychology practitioner should own this book - it helps dive a bit deeper into the frailties of the human mind and gives you a better understanding of how we all work.

My favorite part about this book is how easy it is to skim if you're looking for quick refreshers of information - definitions are clearly labeled so you can gather a quick understanding of a term without an anecdote if you desire.

About the Author
Richard's first property investment was in the mid-nineties, which also marked his biggest regret in property when he sold it within a year! His 'second, first investment' came in the late-noughties, after what he describes as his 'Eureka moment'. He is an experienced professional, businessperson and consultant, with over 25 years' experience. In terms of property, the dire starting position was as a divorcee, no home of his own, in debt, expenses higher than income and a giant hole in his pension. Through property investing over a relatively short time, these challenging issues have fully turned around, such that he could retire today if he wanted to. Richard is a passionate student of property investment and is a prolific knowledge sharer on forums and through via his own blog website www.thepropertyvoice.net. He has a strategic approach, with an outlook as an 'investor' rather than as purely a 'landlord'. Richard has mentored in a variety of situations with a passion for seeing people grow into their capabilities and achieve their goals. There is a subset of people who are different from the normal population. Their brains are wired a bit differently, or they went through experiences in their lives that contributed to their introversion, social avoidance, and shyness. They may have been sensitive children who were neglected or abused, never encouraged to learn about the world around them. Their feelings may have been invalidated while they were young, so they learned to keep their emotions inside instead of sharing them with others around them. They learned to be self-sufficient instead of relying on others and on society for their needs.

You're done before you even knew you'd started

This is good as far as it goes, but 17 pages for $3 isn't going very far. And really, it's more like 12 pages, because the last third is a "preview" of another book on obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. If this were $0.99, I'd probably give it two or three stars.

GMO: What it Does to Us

This is not really a review of this book. I would like to emphasize the merit Fritjof Capra has, as a mainstream scientist, to have unveiled the negative effects of genetically modified organisms, commonly called GMO. There are indeed interesting political and social hidden connections that Capra unveils in this book, while admittedly this subject is not the main tenet of the book. But for me personally it was revelatory which is why I decided to write this review only about this part of the book, leaving it to others to review it in its general focus.

There are probably still people around who are fond of biotechnology, but I guess they just ignore the facts, and their knowledge is for the most part taken from the huge amount of propaganda material. Was it only for this enlightening information, the present book is worth its price as it daringly unveils the hidden facts and tells the truth! For I was one of those ignorant scholars, and in my case this weighs especially heavy against me, for I was trained as an international lawyer. But honestly, I never heard of the matter at university. It was through the Internet, through Wikipedia, that I first found information about it, some years ago.

Now let us honestly ask: why do we need biotechnology? I guess certain people, corporations and their consorts need it for making huge amounts of money. But is it tolerable in a democracy that all suffer from the side effects of technologies that enrich a few? I learnt as a law student that such a kind of system is called an oligarchy, the reign of an elite. So I am seriously asking how we ever came to say that we are living in a democracy?

Why do we need superpigs? It seems to me that they are the result of quantitative thinking, a primacy of quantity over quality, and this for the obvious reason of maximizing profits. This is a good example for the fact that we live in what has been called ‘the corporate society’, as the prototype of a society in which major corporations dictate the standards the government is going to follow and to enact as laws.

As a trained lawyer, I can clearly see that we are facing currently a challenge to legally codify these new technologies—lest, as it were, they are going to codify us, entraining us in a turbulence of faits �tablis, and then the law will leap behind the actual developments. But the law should better accompany the research step by step so as to be updated with the explosive growth of these very heavily funded research disciplines.

Not an easy read, but very educational

This is a highly intelligent book that applies deep philosophical insights and the tenets of complexity theory to the natural world, the social system, and the global economic system. The average layperson will find it mentally challenging, but enlightening as well. Particularly interesting to me was the discussion of epigenetics, which shows that evolution is not a simple function of genes mutating, but a complex and little-understood interaction between genes and the individual organism's environment and personal choices. I agree with the author's view that the unchecked greed of the global financial systems will surely lead to the utter destruction of our natural environment, and the Enron debaucle shows just how removed from reality the assignment of a company's "worth" is in a financial system that is hopelessly tied up in speculations. The changes required to fix these problems would be nothing less than a revolutionary overhaul of the world's economic and political policies, and I do not share the author's optimism that this could happen merely by the action of grassroots organizations, no matter how organized they have become. It will take a global collapse for this to happen, because historically humans only make changes of that magnitude in the face of a crisis...we are not focused on prevention, especially if it means those with money will lose it. This is the only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5...Capra is just too idealistic.

This is an eye opening book

As in Capra's other books, he provides a easy to understand and compelling look at living systems. In this book he takes a substantial leap forward in providing a broad based look at the evolution of the field and the impact on systems that we are now experiencing in our world. He also provides examples and references to successful examples of what we can do if we have the will to do so. What a powerful reference and one that I refer to regularly. If there was but one book to understand living systems and how the science has evolved and the impact on our world, please read this book. I can not recommend it more highly.
