About the Author
NICHOLAS EDWARDS is the author of the phenomenally successful Santa Paws series of books and is also Ellen Emerson White. Consisting of six novels and one picture book (beginning with "Santa Paws" in 1991 and continuing through to "Santa Paws and the New Puppy" in 2004), the Santa Paws series sold close to a million copies in the school and library market. He lives in New York City.

Santa Paws is Coming to Town!!

Description of the story plot and why you gave it the rating: The Callahans's dog, Santa Paws is a dog who loves to help people. He's a hero known all around Oceanport. When the Callahans decide to take a trip to Boston to spend time with their family on Christmas, Santa Paws just can't resist helping people when they are in trouble. When he is on his most heroic rescue mission, him and his owner, Gregory, swim in the freezing cold lake in a Boston park to save a boy got pushed in! When they are taken to the emergency room on Christmas Eve, Santa Paws gets scared and jumps out of ambulance on it's way to a different animal hospital far away and gets lost. Santa Paws tries to find the Callahans and in doing so he helps so many people and they recognize Santa Paws, but can't catch him before he runs away to his family. When Gregory gets out of the hospital bright and early Christmas morning they go searching for Santa Paws. After two days they find Santa Paws on his most dangerous rescue mission, a subway accident, and bring him home for a nice, peaceful, and enjoying Christmas.
I gave Santa Paws, Our Hero a 5 star rating because this book is a very exciting book and you never know what comes next!! This book has a lot of suspense and that's why I love this book!!

Santa paws hero

This is a nice family tale of a large dog - and his cat and human friends - who have adventures. Santa Paws leaves his small town home for this book as his family travel to stay with relatives. However the habit of saving lives and getting people and animals out of trouble is too hard for the large dog to break, and before long he is helping out all over the city.
A funny note is that when he needs help for someone injured, he several times heads to the veterinary clinic where a human would head to a doctor. But this is still a good lesson for children; go wherever there are responsible people to help you. It doesn't need to be a hospital.
There are several explanations of how life works which lift this out of being a tale for small children and bring it into the younger of young adult books. It's also a nice Christmas story.

Part of a great series

Another cute story in the Santa Paws series. What a wonderful dog he is, always trying to rescue people from harm! Even for an adult reader, it is quite amusing to see what kind of predicaments that Santa Paws gets in (or rather, gets his family into). This one involves quite an extensive visit to the hospital! --- just think of all the trouble and mishaps that lead up to that. I really did find myself laughing at certain situations that the dog would get into.
Great series that young readers will enjoy. (Makes a wonderful Christmas gift, for sure!)
