Good background, clearly pro-Malaysia

In preparation for a trip to Malaysia, this helped me understand the history and current outlook and issues. Not really a FUN read, but it seems to be well-written and useful to understanding the country. But I'm not an expert.

A great book to fill us in on this important country.

I wanted to learn more about Malaysia because I have an email contact in Kota Kinabalu. But this book exceeded my expectations. The history of this country is fantastically complex, and amazingly similar to that of the United States. The racial composition of the country is very varied, the concept of "income gap" is very topical, and so is the concept of arguing whether "moderate" or "radical" Islam is to predominate.
Though I wouldn't want to take a test on all the details I read about, I'm certainly glad I read this book, and I think that you will be, too.
